It is yet another case of extreme punishment in schools. A 14-year-old boy in Jammu now has a ruptured eardrum, after he was repeatedly slapped by his school teacher. The boy, Shubam Manhas is still in shock. The Class VIII student studied in the Army school at Nagrota, 20 kilometers from Jammu.

Regardless of when the incident happened, the teacher shouldn't have hit slapped the boy. His actions demonstrate his lack of classroom management skills and self control. I never hit students, although sometimes I'm really tempted to, when they mouth off or act up.
Instead, I send unruly students out for a cooling period until they have settled down and are ready to return to class calmly.

The average pre-adolescent girl is no more innocent, weak, delicate, better-behaved, or vulnerable than the average pre-adolescent boy of the same age. So men/boys should be allowed to publicly-mistreat her as badly as they are allowed to publicly-mistreat him -- without being socially-condemned for 'hitting girls'
