This film was made on 9 November 2008 - the seventieth anniversary of Kristallnacht and filmed in Orienburgerstrasse in Berlin which has become very much the symbol of that night.

Apart from the Emperor's forced abdication in 1918, November 9th is a date still remembered with mixed feelings in Germany:
1923: The Beer Hall Putsch or Hitler-Ludendorff-Putsch.
1938: Kristallnacht (also known as Reichskristallnacht)
1989: The Fall of the Berlin Wall
It's an irony of history that the day when the Berlin Wall fell coincides with the anniversary of Kristallnacht and the Beer Hall Putsch.

I was indeed in Berlin as you can see on the film. I did not see a single loser!
