Born in London were you? Interesting, and where do you dwell now? Of course the zoo i should of known.
However you are correct about Bonaparte, his wrongs did outweigh his rights and i do not hold him in any regard at all, however this in no way reflects on the french or its army at the time, after all he abandoned them for his own gains, so that alone makes him a blueprint

The woods of ... ( 2 months ago by PintJohnBull)
The woods of Hougoumont was held by the Germans. The dutch were standing in ranks, and on several occasions refused orders and were blamed for cowardice. Hanoverian cavalry were seen leaving the field and quietly riding towards the forest. An aide-de-camp was sent to halt them but they left towards brussels.
KGL were magnificent at La haye but heavy losses, Hanoverian Infantry unit cut to peices by french cavalry trying to assist at la haye.

Brunswickers were ... ( 2 months ago by PintJohnBull)
Brunswickers were inexperienced compared to Brits, no older than boys, and their squares took a lot of pounding, and it took their NCOs to thump them hard to shut the gaps in the squares as they were at breaking point. But the brunswickers opened fire and done well.

You need Imperial ... ( 2 months ago by slizzler1)
You need Imperial Guards composition because you will be frowned upon worse than me when you again foolishly bring up OldGuard attacking Wellington with other Waterloo experts.... but your choice- I give you facts but you choose to dwell in ludicrous assumptions.
Actually the woods ... ( 2 months ago by slizzler1)
Actually the woods of Hougoumont were at first held by the British and a small Dutch Light/ infantry battalion. The KGL reinforcements came later in the day as did a fancy-hatted light infantry battalion from the Brunswick corps.
If you want to talk about refusing orders,a squadron of the 7th hussars refused Uxbridge's order to charge a unit of French Lancers the day before during the fighting withdrawal at Genappe-imagine that? Brits refusing an order from the supreme Allied cavalry commander.

Ompteda was a ... ( 2 months ago by slizzler1)
Ompteda was a tragic hero- he actually didn't have to join that battalion of his brigade in their attack. He chose to do so. A true hero. Interesting enough the Prince of Orange who made many horrible tactical decisions in the campaign was spoken of highly by the Duke after the battle- I can't figure out why- true the Prince was brave, but his orders needlessly cost the lives of many very good soldiers.
Yes-Halkett's ... ( 2 months ago by slizzler1)
Yes-Halkett's brigade was ripped to shreds- they had a company-sized battalion left at the end of the day after being in the center of the ridge all day. If you can, read the account of Sgt.Morris and sgt. William Lawrence in Halkett's Brig. They speak of the Imperial Guard forcing them to retire. They were located to the east of Maitland's brigade in the attack- this proves several points of Wellington's line attacked at the same time- Halkett's brigade did not retreat in front of Maitland.
The Brunswickers ... ( 2 months ago by slizzler1)
The Brunswickers were very shakey indeed- especially after their Duke[of Brunswick] was killed at Quatre Bras. They actually also retreated alongside Halkett's brigade in front of the same group of Imperial 'Middle Guard' columns attacking them. Both formations went through Chasse's Dutch division -very strong sized and just placed there in reserve line by Wellington. Chasse got into a heavy firefight and won - they charged and chased these Guard columns past La Haye Sainte

Oh, the self-admiration of the Brits who made this! :D "Those men on grey horses are terrifying!" - "The noblest cavalry in Europe!". Old Bonaparte terrified for those? That's the movie version of what he actually said----------------- here's the reality;
"Ces terribles chevaux gris! Comme il travaillent!" (Those terrible grey horses, how they strive!) - Napoleon
Some of the Greys went deep into the French lines in the center. Napoleon ordered a cuirassier brigade to counter attack these Greys who were also being destroyed by French -not Polish- Lancers in their flank.
