David Gilmour has a very unique soul. I think that no other guitarist, even the ones who are much more stronger musically, can play any melody written by Gilmour with the same divine superiority.

David's playing has such a soothing lullabye affect! I recommend Breathe, Marooned, On the Turning Away, and Us and Them for mothers trying to get their babies to sleep! Make a CD, play it on low volume by the crib -- it worked like a charm for me! Also, I rocked my son to sleep to as an newborn/infant to the dreamy, melodic sounds of David Gilmour. Now my son is 12 years old and loves Pink Floyd; he thinks Gilmour is God of the Guitar! Yeah, I know, my kid rocks! LOL!

NartMakhsida: I agree -- David is more melodic and soulful. David's always claimed he not technical. EVH for example, has a far broader technical style; yet as much as I absolutely love Van Halen (with DLR, not with SH), I can only stand so much of EVH's playing ... that high pitch wailing grates on my nerves after a while to where I cringe and turn the volume down. I've never, ever had that experience while listening to anything by David Gilmour.

Gilmour is fantastic. I'd also nominate Steve Hackett as a guitarist who can create atmospheres with his playing and is in the same league as David.

can sb tell me the titles of most psychodelic songs by floyds? Ones simillar to this song and would be best if they had no lyrics, only crazy tunes. Last time i was on shrooms with friends we were listening to such but i dont remember the names of the songs. they were nuts! thanks!

Gilmour is very technical, but not like the others musicians. I think he focus all his skills in the details... Some Gilmour's songs are kinda difficult to learn because of all those details in the instrument that you have to listen (which make so beautiful melodies).
He's not like the others, trying to play the faster they can lol. Every notes are important. He does his guitar sing!

I think the album Animals is the most psychadelic from Pink Floyd. A lot of instrumental parts. Wright creates nice ambiance and Gilmour plays a great solo in the song Pigs.
There's also a couple of albums when Syd Barrett (before the 70's) which are DAMN psychadelic.

Your right, Pink Floyd's music has never been about speed. It's about being in the moment and knowing what notes to play and which notes to leave out to build tension and mystery.

Check out Terminal Frost from Momentary Lapse of Reason. The Atom Heart Mother Suite, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, and Great Gig in the Sky are outstanding to listen to with psychedelics - the whole Dark Side album, in fact, even with words, is an experience without being too heavy. Animals is great, but it's very dark - might turn your trip. But the best thing to do with Floyd on drugs has to be watching Echoes synced with the last scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey. You can find it on Youtube.

Every psychedelic song of Pink Floyd reminds me of looking up in the sky and thinking to myself what great time the band has had throughout the years and also reminds me of the rememebered syd barrett and richard wright. THANK YOU PINK FLOYD.

Just listen to the solo really carefully, close your eyes, and you'll guaranteed be in another world altogether, that's the power of Pink Floyd music..... god bless them for creating such pieces of audible art......

That's what I used to do when I first listened to the Division Bell CD. Trouble was the music is so relaxing I would fall asleep and it must have taken about 15 attempts to listen to the whole CD. :-) Love the Floyd.
