people dont seem to ... ( 3 weeks ago by joshob0)
people dont seem to understand how many more casualties there would have been for both sides if America had invaded Japan. The Japanese population was being trained to fight off any American invaders, down to the last civilian. If America had to fight, city to city, to get to Tokyo (I don't know where the Emperor was), casualties would have been much greater on both sides. The Japanese would have fought to the last man, woman, and child, for their country and their Emperor.
American censorship ... ( 3 weeks ago by OntarioJack)
American censorship? I'm Canadian and studied in the US and to be frank the Americans really go for the self-flagellating stuff. I never saw anything censored. There are whiney japanese who go to the US to speak of hiro/naga.There's no secret. It's out in the open and people discuss. Frankly I don't know why people discuss it because frankly it's a non-issue. The japanese should be focusing on Unit 731, Nanking, Shanghai, Singapore, abuse of POWs, Sex slavery, drugging the Chinese population.

I think that it isn`t important any more who starts the war and who reacted. Both acted brutal to the civil population.
The only thing we have to learn for the future is that there will be no war at any place on earth.
But like Einstein said:
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I 'm not sure about the the universe.

you are not very well-informed. i give you an example of american censorship.
James Bacques' book "The other Lagers" is prohibited in the USA. it deals with the fate of the prisoners in the allied concentration camps during the second WW. millions of dead. even after the war.

Hmmmm, not very well informed. Interesting. I've been trying to find "The other Lagers" on the internet and all I came up with is some fabulous books on beer. Thanks for tip rambo.
No one is saying the Yanks, Brits, Aussies, Canadians, Kiwis, etc. were prefect angels to AXIS POWs. The fact is is that the Germans and especially your ethnic japanese were inhumane. Example; cannibalizing ALLIED POWs? Even you can admit that IS WAY out of line. Oh, but lets talk about how horrid the Allies were.

The japanese should be focusing on Unit 731, Nanking, Shanghai, Singapore, abuse of POWs, Sex slavery, drugging the Chinese population, exceptional brutal colonization, etc.etc.etc.
Unfortunately we will never hear anything of the sort. Every spring/summer we see japanese schools marching their youngsters off to hiro to see what victims they are of war without going into deep detail on why they got to that point in the first place.
Ever the japanese. Always avoiding the hard questions.

i made a mistake in the title.
the title is "Other Losses". James Baques, a canadian historian. you 'll find it easily.
P.S. i am not saying that the Japanese were all poor lambs. I am just saying what has been acknowledged: that Hiroshima, Nagasaki and the whole bombing campaign in 1945 against Japan was a crime with no justification.
The efficient ... ( 3 weeks ago by OntarioJack)
The efficient military strikes on hiro/naga were crimes only in your leftist japanese mind.
They were most definitely justified.
War is war mate. Kill or be killed. japan is no exception.
Never in my life have I ever seen such a poor loser as japan. You japanese whine and whinge about a non-issue such as hiro/naga.
Move on. Grow up. Get over it. Just like you tell the Chinese about Nanking.

Bacque's book is called "Other Losses". Anyway, as a kid I didnt understand why the allies forgave Nazi Germany so easily. Today I dont believe they did and I dont buy the hollywood portrayel of US and UK soldiers as God's just and holy angels. That they actually acted like monsters towards German pows and civilians seem much more likely.

Instead these possessed murderous madmen were taught a lesson that broke their back and beat all attitude out of them. A very well thought descision by the US.

Of course, you know they forget the tragic power they used to kill 200,000 people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Oh but then again it was terrorists that killed those on 9/11.
The Yanks are not terrorists. It's sad that they can not fathom what they did back in their sordid past. Oh but they are blessed by God.

It was war? If we hadn't had done it then Germany and possibly Japan could have done it on us first.
