The superior german engineering allowed the 109G6 about 12 hours of flight time before a complete overhaul..
They were ... ( 2 weeks ago by CLWZ28)
They were supercharged with methanol and water injection. They also used nitrous oxide if I recall correctly. It was a Bad-Ass at high altitudes .

Just bought myself a new pair of headphones (Panasonic DJ100) and they have great bass (i think they enhance bass a bit). The sound of this BF-109 on them is fantastic. I'm actually getting goose bumps watching this video.

A nice and legendary plane, i love it even though it was outclassed by p-51's i still love this historic aircraft. When it was first in service no plane could keep up with its fast speed and manueverability ( i think i spelled that wrong). Still one of my fav's.

i thought i heard all modern flying Bf-109s have Merlins?
The restored ones ... ( 2 days ago by breckmef)
The restored ones from WW2 mostly have the DB605 or 601, early ones Jumo 210 engine. There were a few 109s before WW2 with RR-Kestrel because german manufacturers couldn't deliver similar powerful engines. After WW2 the 109s were build in license in Spain and CSSR. Spanish ones had RR-Merlin (they couldn't get DBs), Czech ones Jumo 211 (luckily not destroyed during war).
You see the difference looking on the position of the exhaust-pipes, level under propeller-axle = german engine
I bet it's a Bf 109 ... ( 2 days ago by panzerbrigadier)
I bet it's a Bf 109 G-6 early version, not G-10.
The main characteristic of the G-6 are the "Beulen" (bulges)in the cowling for fitting the more powerful Rheinmetall-Borsig MG131 13 mm .51 caliber machine guns.
The real G-10's (and late G-6's) had the single-piece "Erla haube" canopy, 60 mm blletproof armor glass behind the pilot, a taller vertical fin.
G-10's are better sighted cuz their modified cowling for the new DB605D engine.
G-10's also lacked the antenna mast
One downright ... ( 2 days ago by longbowgold67)
One downright menacing and evil sounding fighter. It's scary to think how many aces were made flying 109s, but I can't help but love the way it sounds and looks. Spitfire may look pretty, but nothing to me looks better then something that looks like it wants to kill you.
nicest. ( 18 hours ago by krysscent)
