He said first that some people from his group were arrested for menace the doctor with armed force. And he asked Hauptmann for his held. But the hauptmann didn't wanto heldp cause they had more problems then that. And then comes the part were the "leutnant" is yelling at the hauptmann. He said that this is unfair and that he can't do this to him.

No but I have more imagination than you. Instead of slavishly opining the great names think for yourself. Wars and most human misery are caused or abetted largely by forced authority. We may have a social contract with each other as human beings without being told to. Authority is not a pre-requisite of order, just a respect for others and a willingness to accept responsibilty for our decisions. The rapes as a result of Stalingrad, Berlin and others were officially sanctioned as a weapon of war.

That's how it turned out to be in the end. But the Germans stood a step away from winning the whole city and by the end of September/ beginning of October the Russians were literally hanging on to two strips of land on the river shore (themselves split in half by the German sector with Chuikov's HQ in the south 100 ft away from German posts).

In a sense, it is to wonder at how the Germans DID NOT take the city in the end. Of course it might have not mattered as they became surrounded anyway. It wasn't until the November offensive that surrounded the 6th army that things started to really worsen fro the germans.

Besides being surrounded, they lost two of the four airstrips and with them air superiority over the Stalingrad front. Luftwaffe planes now had to cover longer distances and the cargo ones were more exposed.
