Substance P - Neurology

Uploaded by: DionOlguin
Video Description:
This animation represents the reaction that occurs when the nervous system is stimulated by pain. In the area of the synaptic clef neuro transmitters interact with receptor sites on the dendrite and dorsal root of the nerve cell. The electrical impules are created and nternalization occurs.

Sure. An action ... ( 2 months ago by zanecha)
Sure. An action potential which was created due to the stimulation of a neuro-receptor, begins to travel down a nerve cell. The action potential travelling down the axon, eventually reaches voltage gated ion channels. If the threshold is surpassed then the ca+ ion chanlles open, causing an influx of ca ions. This causes synaptic vessicles, containing a neurotransmitter to merge with the presynaptic membrance. This results in the release of neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft.
The ... ( 2 months ago by zanecha)
The neurotransmitter molecules then bind to specific receptor sites on chemical gated ion channels on the post-synaptic knob. The channels then open. Neurotransmitter is released and is broken down and reused and repackaged back in the pre-synaptic knob. The opened ion channels then allow for an influx of ions (for example's sake, let's say Na+.). If the Na+ causes a large enough change in voltage or the threshold level is reached, then an action potential occurs along the post synaptic knob etc
