On July 2, 2008, in a speech given in Colorado, Senator Obama called for a "civilian national security force" that was as "powerful" and "well-funded" as the military.
He has so far failed to clarify what the role of this "national security force" would be.
Now, I want it abundantly clear, so I'm posting out here in the open. I am not anti-government, not anarchistic, and not endorsing McCain.
I merely oppose excessive government, unreasonable taxes, and a general police state. We don't need a "big brother" to look out for us (and big brother never does).

We'll dress them in camo fatigues and gold painted combat boots and they'll march in lock step chanting "Alpha, omega," and then "because of Barack Obama, I am...." thanking BO for the meaning he gives their lives. We'll have elementary school kids sing songs to Barack, the mesiah most merciful. We'll call them the Armed Body Guard and Obama Youth. But not the Waffen SS or Hitler Youth, because those are already taken

You're removing crucial bits of this quote to make your argument. "National security force" is different than a "security force". he is not talking about an armed paramilitary force made up of civilians but instead utilizing civilians willing to volunteer to provide their expertise in their chosen professions in order to aid the military.

"CIVILIAN National Security Force" Listen to it. I've listened to the entire 17 minute speech. This is not "out of context". It must be am important part of his "change" for America if he is willing to spend the same amount that is currently being spent on the U.S. military. Where is this money coming from? A Civilian Security Force sounds like we watch our neighbors and turn them in if they are "anti-government". AKA Germany 1932!

i think he's referring to the civilians being as powerful as the military. or maybe he wants a clone army to take over the galaxy. I guess the 2nd one makes more sense.

The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesnt count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion.
Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that?
If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?

Some posters have suggested Obama's video remarks were "wildly taken out of context." As this is a frequent tactic employed to defend the indefensible, I invite them to post onto YouTube the "video context", to put the rest any fears that he is not suggesting a govt. funded paramilitary force.

Benjamin Franklin is correct.
The Military is set up with specific codes/laws on what they can and cannot do on American soil. Having a civilian force just as funded and strong as the military for civilian purposes? GESTAPO ring a bell?
People complain about the MILITARY being overfunded now he wants ANOTHER ONE?! Obama knows he cannot solidify his Socialist plans unless he can deter the military, thru equal force/un-funding them to the point they're using spears and wearing tinfoil armor.

Aside from the argument as to what this is:
btw: he mentions the Peaces Corps AND a "Civilian Security Force"
If we now spend 380 billion on our current military, and he wants this new security force to be as large, where are we getting the other 380 billion. Taxes? He may be a comminuty organizer, but a bake sale won't raise this kind of money!

iomega, grow up. Read the video description again. Nowhere in here is an endorsement of McCain. If he had made such a statement, he'd be getting equal treatment.
