Eugene Vincent Craddock mangled his leg in a motorcycle wreck prior to becoming famous. He didn't move about the stage due to his lingering injuries and would twist his leg into a contorted stance that was later mimicked by Elvis Costello and a dozen other punsters from the 70's. Gene Vincent was also in the car wreck that killed Eddie Cochran in England. He died in 1971 from acute alcoholism.

It's not easy to see, but if you look close you can see the leg brace he wore. It was visable where it attached to his shoe.

Kind of sad that Gene practically had to sing half the song with his back to the crowd, due to the lack of stage monitors in those days, not to mention no bass at all, despite amplification. Guess the mics didn't have much dynamic range, or the recording medium of the time couldn't capture it. No matter. This classic rock tune done his way should be seen by anyone learning how to play it. It's how it should be done. Fast, driving, raw, and LIVE! Awesome post.
