I went to the Solomon Islands to research the origins of Rorogwela, a traditional folk song that was sampled in "Sweet Lullaby" by Deep Forest and reused in my dancing videos.
My mom just pointed out a grammatical error in the opening. And I got the date wrong. It was on Halloween. Ah, well.

English, yes... But not necessarily American. The US is not the only English Speaking country, and pretty much every country that began as a British colony or had British occupation for any significant length of time has adopted some English words for things, if not the whole language. So in all honesty, if you want to point a finger, blame the British for the widespread use of English, not the Americans. People from the US are not the only ones who speak English that travel the world.

This is just like the case of the band Enigma ripping off the Amis (an aboriginal tribe in Taiwan) song for their hit "Return to Innocence." I hope these people in the Solomons get fair compensation, and at least wider recognition for their cultural-heritage-cum-pop-intellectual-property.
