It is an M1 Carbine, it just has a 30 round 'banana' mag instead of the 15 rnd mag many associate with the M1. If it were an M2 he would probably want to be firing it full auto. I ve been to that range (they only charge US$1 per round).

I had an M 1 carbine about 15 years ago. I sold it in a moment of poverty and stupidity. I wish I still had it. I have an SKS, but it's not nearly as nice as the carbine.

Only 1$? An M1 Carbine round is worth about 15 cents. A Plainfield is only like 175$ to buy, they usually come with 3 30rd. clips and 2 15rd. sticks. So, I would just buy one. Great gun!
