Superman Cartoon - Billion Dollar Limited - Pre-WWII

Uploaded by: DangerNerd
Video Description:
I believe this one to be pre-war (WWII) and it shows.
I was always told that hair was an animator's nightmare. It is extremely hard to get the natural motion down. If that is true, have a look at Superman's hair throughout all of these, but especially in the scene where he is being attacked while trying to save the train. Right when he starts to pull the train up... watch the hair.
Where did talent go these last 60 years? Now we have computer programs running on vast arrays of physics simulators, that don't do as well as these folk did in 1941.
I will be posting about a dozen of these World War 2 era Superman cartoons over the next week or two.
Please pay close attention to the animation. The animation of the people isn't the best, but any time there is structural drawing or something that was considered high-tech for the day, the animation is incredible.
I don't know how to describe it really, but there is a mixture of realism in the cars and buildings mixed with a sense of fantasy in the other elements that just really, really WORKS to make these a fun time.
There is a lot of politically incorrect stuff in some of these, so please remember the times these came from before whining about that.
This is where we came from, not where we are now.
Produced by the Fleischer studios, the same folks that brought you Popeye cartoons, and the early ad piece "In My Merry Oldsmobile" which is also available here.

The Lois Lane of ... ( 6 months ago by Concetta20)
The Lois Lane of the 40's in the comics and especially in the cartoon was ahead of her time. She was quick-witted and brave; not one to stand idly by and scream if she was in a position to aid Superman. It's just really interesting, because, given the time and the other movies out in that period, you would think she would just be the usual damsel in distress like in all the other serials. Although, occasionally, she does do some really dumb things to get a story. Pain in the neck for Superman.
